7 Things to Not Do on Your First Day in College
Almost there! In just a day, you’ll officially be experiencing your first day in college. You’ve probably dreamed of this day a zillion times, playing how the day will go, over and over in your head. Stories from older siblings and seniors, books you’ve read as children and of course the movies and shows on college life that you’ve binge-watched, its all adding to the excitement! And while of this seems surreal, here’s a small reality check. You’re probably unprepared for the commotion that college is! From the kind of people you’ll meet to classes and teachers, it might be a little overwhelming. But don’t fret, we give you a few pointers of what not to do on your first day in college.
Not Carry a Notepad
Contrary to what’s potrayed in typical Bollywood flicks, not carrying a pen and notepad on your very first day of college is just not cool. Doing this is just going to put you in your teacher’s bad books on the very first day. Carry a notepad of nothing else! [Image: insidehigered.com]
Be an Introvert or Overly Extrovert
On your first day itself you don’t want to be tagged as stuck-up, nor do you want to be the one who gives away too much. Balance it. Be cheerful and open to talking to people, but not so much that it backfires. At the same time don’t hold yourself back so much that it makes people think you’re a bore![Image: popsugar.co.uk]
Be a Total Diva!
While you secretly aspire to the ’Poo’ of your college, hold that thought. Atleast for the first day, or maybe even a week. Take it easy. Dress well, but don’t go all out! Dressing in designer labels from top to bottom can only make you look like a snob and definitely intimidating, even though that might not be your intention. Go easy on your fashion and try to blend in with your mates first before you go dressing up in that extravaganza style. [Image: popxo.com]
Be a Gossip Monger
It is great to build new connections and make new friends but don’t go about gossiping and passing judgements on the very first day. Take it easy on the gossip front. [Image: huffingtonpost.com]
Confining yourself to just one set of group is so off the table. Rather be a part of every group in your class - hostellers and day scholars alike. This way by the end of the semester you’ll be in the good books of everyone in your class. Essential in the long run. [Image: http://archivalrevival.pressible.org]
Wear Wrong Shoes
Wearing the right shoes hold way too much importance. You may have to do a lot of walking inside your campus. So ditch those high heels and slip into something much more comfortable to do all the running errands in and around the campus. Go for actual rain boots if it’s a rainy day. There’s nothing worse than sore or sloppy wet feet. Happy feet mean happy face. [Image: mr-shoes.com]
Add Everyone on Social Media
You might be big on social media but adding everyone to your social media on the very first day can end up being a big mistake! Take time to know everyone first rather than befriending them instantly on Facebook. You don’t want your privacy to be invaded so soon[Image: bgr.in]
