Stylesinspo: Sonam Kapoor’s Love Affair With The Six Yards!
Sarees have had iconic status in Bollywood since its inception. From the chiffon pallus fluttering in the Swiss Alps to the drenched in rain romantic numbers, we’ve seen it all. Let’s just say, Bollywood loves its drapery!
However, with the new age of stylists kicking in (thanks to Sonam’s sister and one-woman army Rhea Kapoor) we’ve seen the traditional drapes go through a makeover. You will notice that senior Kapoor has an affinity for the not-so-basic saris, and we’re here for it!
So, here are a few experimental styles for the fail-safe ensemble, aka the sari.
1. Pants Over Pleats!
Of course, the Kapoor sisters are the ones to get us out of our misery of draping the six yards. One of the most famous pieces from their latest Rheason collection was this lightweight red jumpsuit sari. A look that Sonam and Rhea love and you can trust on heavily for the upcoming festive occasions.
2. Scripted Saree
Sonam is always the one to pull out a rabbit from a hat. Just when you feel shes done it all, there comes another golden find. Case in point, this light yellow saree from Masaba Gupta. From afar this looks like a simple saree paired with an off-shoulder balloon sleeved, organza corset blouse. However a closer look and its revealed that the entire six yards featured lines of script in Tamil running through it in stripes, translating to Sonam, Masaba and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. All we can say is this piece is for keeps!
3. Goth Green!
Picking up this gem of a piece from Badaam, Rhea Kapoor styled it in a 90s way. The handwoven and hand-dyed, incense sari came with an over-sized shirt blouse, both featuring an abstract white pattern. She let her sari do all the talking and kept her hair very simple and fuss-free with just a belt and gold chunky earrings by One Nought One.
4. Cape or Drape!
Another great ensemble by the magician Gaurav Gupta. Featuring a cape over the pallu, this look came with a sexy back that gave us a full view of Sonam’s envious curves. All in all, glamazon dot com!
5. Distressed Denims
A denim saree? We sure didn’t see that coming!
For her much talked about movie Veere Di Wedding promotions, Sonam opted for a Diksha Khanna hand-distressed Denim sari. No pleats and no pins, this was a slip-and-go sorta look that sat like perfection on Sonam. With that, a white shirt, some gold hoops and a messy bun perfected the look. Thumbs up for pulling off such an unconventional drape.
